The gears and other transmission components, made of alloy steel (e.g. case-hardening steel, tempered steel), are Electron Beam Welded (EBW) to ensure a consistent joint and a reduced heat input to the base material that must not undergo variations in hardness and / or distortions.
The high vacuum existing in the welding chamber eliminates the problem of oxidation of the weld and the adjacent base material.
Accurate control of all process parameters ensures repeatability of results and thus tight control of key characteristics of welded components.
The electron beam welded pieces do not undergo distortions and therefore post-weld mechanical processing is not necessary.
